Since 2012, I have been a featured speaker for a quarterly educational seminar series in Houston called the Guide to Good Divorce. The program was founded by Houston family law attorney, Trey Yates, who addresses attendees on the topic of divorce law in Texas. My topic is, of course, divorce financial planning and the divorce process. The panel of speakers also typically includes a therapist, or a life coach, who offers guidance and insights into self-care and wellness during the stressful and emotional divorce process.
If you are considering or going through divorce, I highly recommend attending this seminar. It is jam-packed with vital information that anyone considering or going through divorce needs to know. It is also inexpensive at just $97, which includes a light brunch and all materials.
The seminar brings women together in the same place because they are each experiencing the same life event — divorce. They come because they want and need to learn about the divorce process, to better understand their legal and financial rights, and to determine their action plan and next steps. What many of them don’t anticipate is that they will gain a great deal more.
For most of them, for the first time, they will come face-to-face with other women going through the same thing. Some haven’t yet told family and friends of their decision. Others are still sorting out their feelings and when to act on what their heart is telling them to do. While their individual circumstances may differ, they immediately see themselves in the faces of other women who share this common moment.
I’ve watched them connect and bond with each other because of this. It is almost magical to see it unfold. They begin consoling those who are in pain, comforting others who have questions and share their fears and indecision, and encouraging those who are confused or indecisive. It is something I look forward to at every seminar. Yes, this happens every time.
By the end of the seminar, they are exchanging phone numbers, drying their tears, finding things in their lives to be grateful for and proclaiming a self-confidence and determination to move forward. Some even leave with smiles on their faces. It’s a wonderful transformation to witness. And bottom-line, it is why I do what I do. I love helping women and teaching them the financial side of the divorce process.
With that, I encourage you or someone you know to come to our next Guide to Good Divorce Seminar on Sat., April 28 at the Houstonian Hotel if you are facing or considering divorce. Come for the information which is very important, but also know you will be welcomed and supported by other women who are just like you. I have no doubt you will leave inspired and much more knowledgeable than when you came. And as we all know, knowledge is power. Here’s to your powerful next best life!
